ಮಧುರೈ (ತಮಿಳುನಾಡು), ಏಪ್ರಿಲ್ 06: ತಂದೆ – ಮಗನ ಲಾಕಪ್ ಡೆತ್ ಪ್ರಕರಣಕ್ಕೆ ಸಂಬಂಧಿಸಿದಂತೆ, 9 ಪೊಲೀಸರಿಗೆ ಮರಣ ದಂಡನೆ ಶಿಕ್ಷೆ ವಿಧಿಸಿ ಮಧುರೈ ನ್ಯಾಯಾಲಯ ಏಪ್ರಿಲ್ 06 ರಂದು ತೀರ್ಪು ನೀಡಿದೆ.
ಇನ್ಸ್ಪೆಕ್ಟರ್ ಶ್ರೀಧರ್, ಸಬ್ ಇನ್ಸ್ಪೆಕ್ಟರ್ಗಳಾದ ಬಾಲಕೃಷ್ಣನ್, ರಘು ಗಣೇಶ್ ಹಾಗೂ ಸಿಬ್ಬಂದಿಗಳಾದ ಮುರುಗನ್, ಸಮದುರೈ, ಮುತ್ತುರಾಜಾ, ಚೆಲ್ಲದೊರೈ, ಥಾಮಸ್ ಫ್ರಾನ್ಸಿಸ್ ಮತ್ತು ವೈಲುಮುತ್ತು ಮರಣ ದಂಡನೆ ಶಿಕ್ಷೆಗೆ ಗುರಿಯಾದವರೆಂದು ಗುರುತಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ.
ಏನೀದು ಪ್ರಕರಣ? : ತೂತುಕುಡಿ ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಯ ಸಾತಾನ್ಕುಲಂನಲ್ಲಿ ಮೊಬೈಲ್ ಅಂಗಡಿಯನ್ನು ಪಿ.ಜಯರಾಜ್ (58) ಹಾಗೂ ಅವರ ಪುತ್ರ ಬೆನ್ನಿಕ್ಸ್ (31) ನಡೆಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು. ಕೋವಿಡ್ ಲಾಕ್’ಡೌನ್ ವೇಳೆ, ನಿಗದಿತ ಅವಧಿ ಮೀರಿ ಅಂಗಡಿ ತೆರೆದಿದ್ದ ಆರೋಪದಲ್ಲಿ ತಂದೆ – ಮಗನನ್ನು 2020 ಜೂನ್ 19 ರಂದು ಪೊಲೀಸರು ಬಂಧಿಸಿದ್ದರು.
ಪೊಲೀಸ್ ಠಾಣೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ತಂದೆ ಹಾಗೂ ಮಗನ ಮೇಲೆ ಪೊಲೀಸರು ತೀವ್ರ ಹಲ್ಲೆ ನಡೆಸಿದ್ದರು. ಇದರಿಂದ ಗಂಭೀರ ಗಾಯಗೊಂಡಿದ್ದ ಇಬ್ಬರೂ ಜೂನ್ 22ರಂದು ಆಸ್ಪತ್ರೆಗೆ ದಾಖಲಾಗಿದ್ದು, ಚಿಕಿತ್ಸೆ ಫಲಕಾರಿಯಾಗದೆ ಕೊನೆಯುಸಿರೆಳೆದಿದ್ದರು. ಸದರಿ ಘಟನೆಯು ದೇಶಾದ್ಯಂತ ಆಕ್ರೋಶದ ಅಲೆ ಸೃಷ್ಟಿಸಿತ್ತು. ಪ್ರಕರಣದ ತನಿಖೆಯನ್ನು ಸಿಬಿಐಗೆ ವಹಿಸಲಾಗಿತ್ತು.
Father–Son Lockup Death Case: Death Sentence for 9 Policemen!
Madurai (Tamil Nadu), April 6: In connection with the father–son lockup death case, the Madurai court on April 6 awarded the death sentence to nine policemen.
Those sentenced are Inspector Sridhar, Sub-Inspectors Balakrishnan and Raghu Ganesh, and police personnel Murugan, Samadurai, Muthuraja, Chelladurai, Thomas Francis, and Veilumuthu.
What is this case? In Sathankulam, Thoothukudi district, P. Jayaraj (58) and his son Benicks (31) ran a mobile phone shop. During the COVID lockdown, police arrested the father and son on June 19, 2020, alleging that they had kept their shop open beyond permitted hours.
At the police station, both were brutally assaulted by policemen. Due to severe injuries, they were admitted to hospital on June 22, but succumbed despite treatment.
The incident sparked nationwide outrage. The investigation was later handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
